Islamic Ethics

ABOUT SELF-CONTROL:

Have you ever been so angry that you could scream, yet you were strong enough to control yourself? Have you ever been so enraged that you almost took action, yet you controlled yourself and calmed down out of your own will? If so, then you have obeyed some recommendations of the Messenger of God, Muhammad (P.B.U.H).

Islam urges us to CONTROL OURSELVES:

In anger a person can make a bad decision, and he can say bad things which he doesn’t mean or usually doesn’t say. In anger, a person can hurt and damage the feelings of others and destroy his relationship with them. In anger a ruler can give a decision that may prove to be disasterous. In anger, a person is usually not himself, and simply cannot think clearly.

See what God’s Messenger, Muhammad (P.B.U.H) says:

“THE MOST EXCHLLENT JIHAD IS THAT THE CONQUEST OF SELF.”

“WHOEVER SUPPRESSES HIS ANGER, WHEN HE WAS CAPABLE OF SHOWING IT, GOD WILL GIVE HIM A GREAT REWARD.”

“NO PERSON HAS DRUNK A BETER DRAUGHT THAN THAT OF ANGER, EHICH HE HAS SWALLOWED FFOR GOD’S SAKE.”

The prophet urges us to control ourselves and he says that in so doing, we will have done a good from of jihad, which is the struggle for the cause of God.

We are urged to control our anger although the situation may be such as to make us free to express ourselves. That is become an angry person cannot think straight, and he can be cruel in what he says. Hard feeling can be the result. And the injured person may retaliate and the problem becomes bigger and bigger.

We, as gentlemen, are far better off if we can control ourselves and be patient. This way we will give ourselves time to think and to reason, and whatever made us angry can be taken in good stride. By being patient, we will give ourselves time to cool off.

The only time Prophet Muhammad used to become angry was when someone used to misuse the name of the Almighty or His Holy book, the Quran.

So self control we will try, and we promise to do that.

But note:

We are in control we where many people and the press do misuse, at times, not only the Holy Book of God, the Quran, but also the name of God.

It is our sacred duty to explain Islam to these people the way we understand it; and we are to keep doing that diligently and perseverently. It is a great form of jihad for the sake of God.

If the name of God is abused by the people around and they would not listen to our explanation, then we can angry at them, and put them straight. It is most demeaning and most disgusting to see someone abusing the Religion of God. Since we are its defendants and so are you, we will do anything possible to step such persons from their attempts.

A Good Muslim Will Remember:

1.      It is bad to be angry or lose self control. It is also bad taste and immature.

2.      Losing temper may lead to troublesome results.

3.      It is far better to be patient, to take the time and to use reason, than otherwise.

4.      We can imitate our leader Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), and be angry and try to defend God and Islam if someone misuses them.
