ABOUT BEING RESPONSIBLE:
Not much can be done if we don’t have the feeling of being responsible and do what we are supposed to do. Responsibility can be quite a heavy duty on our shoulders, and it varies according to how old we are, what position we have, and how capable we are.
It is our duty indeed to carry on our responsibilities the best we can, and it is our responsibility to try to live Islamically as best as we can.
Islam commands us to be RESPONSIBLE:
Personal responsibility can be a heavy burden an our shoulders and we will have to carry it on until the job is done. The holy Quran says:
مَن اهتَدی فَاِنَما یَهتَدی لِنَفسهِ وَمَن ضَلَ فَاَنَما یَضِلُ عَلَیها
وَلا تَزِرُو وازِرَةٌ وِزرَ اُخری
“ANYONE WHO IS GUIDED WILL BE GUIDED ONLY SO FAR HE HIMSELF IS CONCERNED, WHILE ANYONE WHO STRAYS, STRAYS ONLY BY HIMSELF. NO BURDENED SOUL WILL BEAR ANOTHER’S BURDEN.”
لا یُکَلَفُ اللهُ نَفساً الا مااَتها سَیَجعَلُ الله بَعدَ عُسرٍ یُسراً
“GOD ONLY HOLDS A SOUL RESPONSIBLE FOR SOMETHING HE HAS GIVEN IT. GOD WILL GRANT EASE AFTER HAEDSHIP.”
(AL- QURAN lxv-7)
We are responsible for our own welfare and for the welfare of others. We are responsible for the welfare of our parents and children, in the school or in the community, or wherever we are. Such responsibility ought to be carried out well and conscientiously with the best of our ability. No lip service should be given to such a very important quality in us. That is to say, we should not keep talking about what we intend to do, yet produce no action or results. We ought to put our thoughts into productive actions of the highest quality.
See what God’s Messenger says:
الا کُلُّکُم راعٍ وَ کُلُّکُم مَسئولٌ عَن رَعِیَّتِهِ
“TRULY, EACH OF YOU IS A RESPONSIBLE LEADER FOR HIS FLOCK, AND EACH OF YOU WILL STAND TO BE QUEATIONED ABOUT HIS RESPONSIBILITY.”
Thus, the above shows us that we are to take responsibility vet seriously whatever it is, and to carry out our gob to the best of out ability, because the Almighty will ask and judge us accordingly.
It is a great to shoulder the responsibility, and it is cowardice to shun it away unless we think we will not be capable of performing the task. He who is too lazy to carry on the load of responsibility is someone who is not acting upon the above Hadith.
One of the greatest responsibilities that we can take on our shoulders is the work for Islam. This can be as living Islamically, or teaching our children to be good Muslims and studying Islam, or teaching Islam to others, to others, or writing about Islam in the newspapers, or long way in producing a great deal for the welfare of the community.
A Good Muslim Will Remember:
1. Responsibility is a heavy burden on the shoulders of every one of us, to be carried to the best of our ability.
2. It is a great honor to shoulder responsibilities for the Islamic work and for the religion of God, Islam.
3. We will be asked and judged according to how well we could carry on our responsibilities.
4. He who escapes shouldering responsibilities for Islamic and discouraged from it.
5. The field for responsible workers for Islam is wide open everywhere you go. So go ahead and produce and don’t say “so and so person will do it”, and don’t say “we should do this” and this would be as far as you can go. Plan and produce, then say we have already done it. This is the way it ought to be.
But on the contrary:
He who neglects his responsibilities and ignores them, will stand to hurt himself and the people around. Whatever field he is in, if he is not punctual, productive, doing his best, then his work will suffer and can be of poor quality. As a mattes of fact, his family and even the society can suffer from such people. A person who ignores his responsibilities can be like a parasite on the society.
When enough Muslims take on seriously the responsibility for their Islamic work, then the Islamic community can become a tremendous entity, where the power of goodness can light the darkness around it.
Almighty God knows our capacity and he will reward our carrying on of our responsibilities according to our potentials. He who ignores his responsibilities will be judged accordingly.
