IN REGARD TO STEALING

A grave sin stealing is, and Islam has prohibited such an act exclusively. The sin of stealing is almost next to the sin of murder.

Stealing is very destructive, and by it many innocent people will suffer and lose their belongings or what have. They will also suffer emotionally for some time after that. He who steals is trying to capitalize on others, not just to be like a parasite on the society, but worse than that ; he is a disruptive parasite to the society and a grave danger to its integrity. Stealing can ruin some innocent people when they may lose everything they have. It is so unfair to them and to all concerned.

God has put his just punishment in regard to stealing as follows:

وَالسارقُ وَالسارقَةُ فاقطعوا

ایدیهما جزاءً بما کسبا نکالاً مِن الله وَالله عزیزٌ حَکیمٌ

“AS TO THETHIEF, MALE OR FEMALE, CUT OFF HIS OR HER HAND: A PUNISHMENT BY WAY OF EXAMPLE, FROM GOD, FOR THEIR CRIMES: AND GOD IS EXALTED IN POWER.”

(AL-Quran V-41)

Stealing can be small or big, but no matter how it is, the intention to steal, the act of stealing and the aftermath of stealing  are destructive  acts that will hurt the innocent, and may encourage the thief to steal more if he is not punished.

The above punishment will offer an example to anyone who is thinking of committing an act of stealing and living off the society.

In Islam we gain our living when we work for it. By stealing, a thief gains something for nothing. A thief is capitalizing on others, and it is worse than being a parasite on the community.

Quite often, the stolen goods from a store, etc, may have to be paid for by a whole group of people in the community. In other words, the damage is passed on to the innocent and the honest people. So a thief is doing grave harm to a whole community and we all stand to suffer.

A Good Muslim Will Remember:

1.      You earn your living by working for it honorably.

2.      Stealing is a grave sin and is punishable severely.

3.      Stealing is unfairness and harm to the people whose goods are stolen.

4.      Decency dictates high integrity, which is against stealing.

Stealing brings harm to numerous people; the innocent consumer. It is a grave damage to the community.
