IN REGARD TO MARRIAGE

Islam encourages all of us towards married life, and to be living in fruitful happy bondage. Marriage is encouraged because it increases our awareness of living responsibly, and sharing our experiences with our loved ones, and to care for our children the best way we can. Marriage is a complex highly constructive undertaking, and its success depends on our way of understanding each other and on our way of understanding the art of living in good harmony. A good married life is the best environment to raise children in, and a decent relationship at home is a good goal upon which the family life depends.

See what Almighty God says in His Holy Book:

هوالذی خَلَقَکُم مِن

نَفسٍ واحِدَةٍ وَجَعَلَ منها زوجَها لِیَسکُنَ الیها

“IT IS HE WHO CREATED YOU FROM A SINGLE PERSON, AND MADE HIS MATE OF LIKE NATURE, IN ORDER THAT HE MIGHT DWELL WITH HER. (IN TRANQUILITY, LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING).”

 (AL- QURANVII-189)

وَ عاشِروهُنَ بالمَعروفِ فَان

کَرِهتُمُوهُنَ فَعَسی ان تَکرَهو شَیاً وَیَجعلَ اللهُ فیهِ خَیراً کَثیراً

“…ANDLIVE NICELY WITH THEM, ON A FOOTING OF KINDNESS AND EQUITY. IF YOU TAKE A DISLIKE TO THEM, IT MAY BE THAT YOU DISLIKE A THING, AND GOD BRINGS THROUGH IT A GREAT DEAL OF GOOD.”

 (AL-QURAN IV-19)

“MEN ARE THE PROTECTORS AND MAINTAINERS OF WOMEN, BECAUSE GOD HAS GIVEN THE   ONE, MORE THAN WHAT HE HAS GIVEN THE OTHER AND BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT THEM FROM THEIR MEANS. THEREFORE, THE IRGHTOUS WOMEN ARE DEVOUTLY OBEDIENT, AND GUARD THEMSELVES IN (THE HUSBAND’S) ABSENCE. WHAT GOD WOULD HAVE THEM GUARD.”

 (AL- QURAN IV-34)

And let us see what God’s Messenger (P.B.U.H) says:

“THE WORD AND EVERYTHING IN IT ARE VALUABLE; BUT THE MOST VALUABLE THING IN THE WORLD IS A VIRTUOUS WOMAN.”

“A MUSLIM MUST NOT DESPISE HIS WIFE; AND IF HE BE DISPLEASED WITH ONE BAD QUALITY IN HER, THEN LET HIM BE PLEASED QUALITY THAT IS GOOD.”

“GIVE YOUR WIFE GOOD COUNSEL; AND IF SHE HAS GOODNESS IN HER, SHE WILL SOON TAKE IT; AND LEAVE OFF IDLE TALKING.”

“HE IS OF THE MOST PERFECT MUSLIM WHOSE DISPOSITION IS MOST LIKED BY HIS OWN FAMILY.”

“HE IS OF THE MOST PERFECT MUSLIME WHOSE DISPOSITION IS BEST; AND THE BEST OF YOU ARE THEY WHO BEHAVE TO THEIR WIVES.”

Obviously, we are encouraged to hold to the best disposition possible towards our families. This is especially true when it comes to a man treating his wife, and vice versa.

A good, gentle, loving mutual relationship in the family will become the “good background” to raise children in. Living nicely together, on equal footing, each knowing and doing his share of work will open the doors to happiness. A happy family is a good medium to raise children in, and to enjoy.

Devotion of husband to wife and vice versa, mutual support and understanding, mutual counsel are some of the important points to remember.

Fights, discord, mistrust, disagreement, bad disposition and the like, are the seeds for unhappy relationships, in which parents and children will suffer.
